British OneWeb Gets Interested in Building Specialized Satellite Net Service Stations in Georgia to Cover the Region Print Version

One of the largest British start-up companies in the segment of global connectivity - OneWeb - is interested in building specialized satellite net service stations in Georgia to cover the entire region. It was noted at a meeting of Adrián Steckel, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of OneWeb with Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia held within the scope of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos today.

Company is focused on the operation of a broad-band internet network through the global space satellite web.

Meeting was focused on the prospect of cooperation between Georgia and OneWeb within the first phase of its main project, which is aimed at the satellite service delivery in various countries of the world through specialized stations, which is one of the key components of internet access to all.

Company officials noted that keen interest exists towards building such stations in Georgia, which in their opinion has been significantly conditioned by the favorable investment climate in Georgia, strategic location of the country, making it stand out as a regional hub. Company officials expressed their readiness in cooperating more actively with the Government of Georgia, as a result of which investments will be made in building the stations and introducing the cutting-edge technologies in the country.

Global start-up is already cooperating with the Georgian private sector and namely with SilkNet. Respective Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was concluded by and between OneWeb and SilkNet after a meeting with the Head of Government of Georgia today.

Start-up equity of British OneWeb is 6 BLN USD and it operates in the European and US markets. Company is keen to extend its fast satellite net and build the applicable stations in various countries of Europe and Asia.
