Government of Georgia – Prime Minister's Visits 2008 Year

Prime Minister Visits Shida-Kartli Region

On 5 December 2008 Prime Minister of Georgia Grigol Mgaloblishvili was on a visit in Shida Kartli.

The Prime Minister visited Mereti Village, Gori Region, that drew fire from the Russian-seized Khelchua Village. As the Prime Minister said, Ossetian separatists continue firing at Georgian villages with the guns of varying calibers. According to Grigol Mgaloblishvili, it is necessary that the EU observers enter the conflict zone as well as the zone controlled by the Russians.

"This is a telling example that the EU observers mission should enter the occupied territory, there where provocations actually happen. Our response to all of this will be to build more homes. 5220 people have already been accommodated. The government will provide the best support available to the victims of war. Such provocations won't stop our efforts", Grigol Mgaloblishvili said.

The Prime Minister also attended the opening of a social service center in Gori. Gori Social Service Center is the first facility to provide comfortable service to the population. Similar
centers will be set up in all the regional and district offices of the Agency. At this point, the rehabilitation process is underway in 13 offices.

"In general, the next year's budget envisages increased financing for the social sector to amount to 1 billion 566 million Lari. However, one thing is to increase funds but the other - to improve the service quality. The Agency is a fine example to show how well the service quality must be improved for our most vulnerable population."

Grigol Mgaloblishvili visited the homes, which are under construction in Karaleti Village to accommodate the population aggrieved as a result of the Russian aggression. "We have already accommodated 5220 people and plan to accommodate 480 more. By mid December we in tend to complete the accommodation process everywhere", the Prime Minister said.
