Government of Georgia – Appearance 2008

Special Statement of the Prime Minister of Georgia

On August 12, the prime minister of Georgia made a special announcement on the Russian military who a few hours ago advised the staff of the Kulevi Terminal to leave the terminal. The Russian side explained this request by their intention to undertake bombing of the nearby woods in order to eliminate the Georgian units who were sheltered there. The Kulevi terminal belongs to the Socar, Azerbaijan Public Company and according to the words of the prime minister this is the largest investment in Georgia. Investment of the company amounts to hundred thousand dollars. The Azeri side is greatly worried on this issue and is engaged in negotiations with Russia, so that the terminal should not be bombed.

Apart from this, according to the statements of the Russian peacekeepers they are going to blast three military ships which are harbored in the Poti Port. The initial plan was to blast the said ships directly in the port waters, which would be very risky indeed. Therefore, they will take the ships out in the open sea, so that the port infrastructure will not suffer any damage in the course of the operation, - Vladimer Gurgenidze asserted.

According to the prime minister's statement, on Monday, August 11, despite the grave situation that has been created in Georgia, 14 million Gel was entered in the state budget. This is a very good indicator for manifesting economic strength.

Tomorrow, on August 13, the banks will resume their work in a usual regime.
