Government of Georgia – Appearance 2006

On November 4 the Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Noghaideli and energy minister Nika Gilauri inspected the energy objects for assessment of the readiness of the energy sector for the winter season

On November 2, 2006 at the Chancellery of the Government of Georgia was held the sitting of the energy commission.

Before consideration of the items on agenda the Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Noghaideli spoke about the increase of the cost for 1 cub. m gas to 235 USD as proposed by Gasprom to gas distributors. The Prime Minister stated that this tariff was not established finally. "I instructed the chiefs of the gas transportation company and energy ministry to assist our companies in the process of their negotiations with Gasprom to make the agreed price more admissible both for those companies and got the suers. At the same time it is clear that here we are facing more political talks than the economical one," - said Zurab Noghaideli.

The Prime Minister also spoke about the alternative ways of gas and electricity supply: "We shall create alternative ways of gas and energy supply. In order to get the as good as possible conditions and terms for our customer we shall complete the talks with Turkey, Azerbaijan and Iran.

We will consider at the commission the task received from the Georgian President in the beginning of the year. In our country new HPPs shall be built as soon as possible whereupon we will be able to be less dependent on the imported electricity and gas. Today we will make decision on the commencement of two hydropower plants in Georgia: Paravani and Gudauri that will be an alternative way to get the energy independence based on own resources".
