Meeting of January 17, 2007

On January 17, 2007 was held the Meeting of the Government of Georgia. The agenda included 17 items.

Upon the beginning of the Meeting the Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Noghaideli informed the members of the Government that from January 15 Georgia receives natural gas from the South Caucasus pipeline that is the fact of great importance. He said that in some days will be finished rehabilitation operations at Shah Deniz gas field and in 10-15 days Georgia will get gas from the gas field.

In connection with this the Prime minister of Georgia ordered to the Georgian energy ministry, respective services to attach special attention to the activity in these directions, to take effective measures in order to provide the uninterrupted gas supply by the South Caucasus pipeline.

The Prime Minister of Georgia expressed satisfaction that past week the negotiations between the Azeri transport ministry, Georgian economic development ministry and other respective agencies of both countries about the rehabilitation and construction operations in Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku rail backbone were very successful. He said that all issues were agreed upon between the parties and in the nearest future will be signed the agreements and the operations will commence this year already.

Implementation of this project is very important for its infrastructure. By operation of this railway backbone Georgia will become the railway bridge between Europe and Asia and the agreed and correct actions are necessary to execute everything in due time, - stated the Prime Minster of Georgia.
