Head of the Press Office of the Georgian Prime Minister Mr. Nikoloz MchedlishviliOn May 24, 2010, Mr. Nikoloz Mchedlishvili, the Head of the Press Office of the Georgian Prime Minister made a statement as follows:

"As the local elections are coming soon, the Prime Minister decided to address the population and the public officers for providing democratic, free and equal environment during the pre-election process and on the day of the elections.

In order to give information to the population that the Government will not admit any effort by public officers to make pressure during the pre-election campaign and in the process of voting, a video clip has been prepared where the Prime Minister addresses the population.

In this video clip Nika Gilauri highlights several circumstances which are prohibited by the law:

• Exercising pressure on the candidates participating in the elections to withdraw the candidacy.

• Offering money in return for electorate votes.

• Misleading the electorate as if secret voting won't be protected and every elector will be controlled to find out which candidate they voted for.

• Exercising pressure on and threatening employees to the benefit of or against any candidate.

• Promising the electorate to release their relatives from prison in return for their votes.

• Falsification of any election-related documents, results of the elections or disruption of the election process.
According to Nika Gilauri these elections will be one more step forward to the democratic development of Georgia."
