Georgian Prime Minister made a statement regarding Aleksandre Kvitashvili in the State Chancellery Print Version

Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri made a statement regarding Aleksandre Kvitashvili in the State ChancelleryOn 31 August 2010 the Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri made a statement regarding Aleksandre Kvitashvili in the State Chancellery:

"Sandro Kvitashvili was appointed as an acting TSU Rector. Accordingly, he was removed from the position of the Health Minister.

I want to thank this person for his contributions made to the health sector.

I want to single out several reforms. Especially, a village doctor program. As you know, a new institute was established during Sandro's (Kvitashvili) tenure as the Minister in the health sector. The health sector has been improved thanks to this program.

The second is the number of insureds. In 2006 there were 200 insured persons in Georgia and the present number of insureds is 1,5 mln. The fact that the state insured many residents through the health ministry played a great role; especially, those persons who belong to the strata of vulnerable persons.

The third one is construction of new hospitals. As you know, currently, construction of new hospitals and new clinics has started practically in all regional centers. More than 46 new hospitals and clinics will be built in regions within the next 18 months. Besides, the State has performing rehabilitation works in Tbilisi hospitals. And here I also want to highlight a special role of Sandro Kvitashvili and the Health Ministry.

And, finally, the basis of vulnerables. There were always problems due to questions in methodology. Sandro and the Health Ministry also played a huge role in settlement of the said problem.
I want to thank him for the work he has done during this period. He was one of the most successful Ministers.
Of course, it does not mean that everything is done and everything is okey in the health sector.
But the first and most important steps in this filed have been taken and the society will see the real results thereof in 2010-11-12.

As to a new Health Minister, consultations have begun with this regard and will propose a new candidate for the health Minister in the next week."

According to the PM's Press-Center, no other governmental modifications are expected in the nearest future. The present-day change is only caused by the fact that Aleksandre Kvitashvili received a proposal from TSU Academic Board to head this institution of higher education.
