Prior to the meeting the Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri talked about the results of the last year Quarter IV and expected results of this January.

Here below you can find the opening statement of the Prime Minister:

"The exact (gross) domestic product figures will be specified in March. Although, I can provide rough figures to you: the basic correlation is related to VAT turnover, and VAT turnover was positive in the last Quarter IV. We have 1.5% growth as compared to the previous year. As to January, the first figures are also related to tax and economic activity. In whole, it is increased by 5% in view of tax income from January 2009 till January 2010. Special attention should be paid to VAT as it is Vat which cuts out the economic activity-related correlation. In view of Vat we have 12% growth. In January 2010 economic activity in terms of VAT is above 12%.

Furthermore, we have initial figures regarding activity on the real estate market. In addition, number of construction permits is sharply increased, you might say, doubled.

Positive steps in the Georgian economy, in view of macroeconomics, are clear. One might tell that Quarter IV was positive in view of the gross domestic product and, accordingly, the crisis was averted in Quarter IV. We are observing speeding up and acceleration of economic activity in Georgian and in the entire region. I believe that the reforms we are going to carry out this year will favour the economic growth. And as to our plan, the gross domestic product will be increased by at least + 2%".
