Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2010 Year

Meeting of the Government as of May 11, 2010

Meeting of the Government as of May 11, 2010 The meeting of the Government of Georgia was held on 11 May 2010. The agenda consisted of 25 items.

Prior to beginning of the meeting the Prime Minister of Georgia Nika Gilauri talked about increase of economic performance.

"Please be advised that we have economic activity figures as of April. The said figures will be interesting both for members of the Government and the society.

Economic growth in April continued its development in the same rate as it was in Quarter I. And it is very good.

We do not compare 2009-year figures with 2010-year figures as there is a significant increase with regard to 2009. We are making comparison practically with everything, with figures of Quarter I of 2008. This is very good as Quarters I and II of 2008 were the quarters distinguished for their economic boom.

As to real estate registration, it is one of the most important factors of economic activity. It also experienced a serious rise in April. If we compare with 2009-year figures, it increased by 43%, and if we compared with 2008-year figures - it increased by 5%.
There is strong increase in sales of cars. As compared to the previous year, the growth is 30%. We can also say that we caught up 2008-year figures.

The banking sector has been significantly and rapidly increasing its portfolio. The number of deposits has increased considerably.

Loan portfolios have increased as well. Consumer loans, as well as mortgages and the number of credit cards have also increased. This points out to the fact the economy has been growing rapidly and getting back to the rate of the end of 2007 and the beginning of 2008. We can easily say that there is no point of making any comparison with 2009.
We'll try to compare all figures with 2008 as it will be more interesting for businessmen, investors and the society".
