Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2010 Year

Meeting of the Government as of August 3, 2010

Meeting of the Government as of August 3, 2010 The meeting of the Government of Georgia was held on August 3, 2010. The agenda consisted of 38 items.

Before commencement of the Meeting, Prime Minister of Georgia Nika Gilauri highlighted several issues:

"We have made analysis of the economic activity for 6 months, which covers interesting figures and I'd like to introduce these figures to the society. Loan portfolios of the commercial banks are considerably increased amounting to approximately 5,9 billion lari. Deposits have been also increased from 3,4 to 3,9 billion lari. It's very important that the export ratios have grown in different fields, for example, export of electric power and agricultural products. Against 6 months of the last year present total growth amounts to 40 per cent. If last year the export amounted to 516 million US dollars, in the same 6 months of 2010 it amounts to 719 million US dollars. It's worth noting that the export of electric power is nearly doubled, and in the export of agricultural products 25% growth has been identified. As for the gross domestic product, the principal index is the VAT turnover, which is also considerably increased as such turnovers have the closest correlation with the gross domestic product figures. In the first quarter the VAT turnover increased by 19 per cent, and in the second quarter - by 33 per cent. In whole, according to the data of 6 months, the growth amounts to 26 per cent. As for the gross domestic product, as far as you know, in the first quarter the growth was 4,5 per cent, and in the second quarter, as per the preliminary data, the growth amounted to 7-7,5 per cent. Accordingly, the total 6-months growth is approximately 5,5-6 per cent, which is very important as this is not a slow growth rate for this region. Final figures will be available in September and the Statistics Department will provide the society with this information right at this time."
