Meeting of the Government as of August 10, 2010

Meeting of the Government as of August 10, 2010 The meeting of the Government of Georgia was held on August 10, 2010. The agenda consisted of 44 items.

Before the Meeting Prime Minister of Georgia Nika Gilauri asked the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources to provide information on the current situation in Samtskhe-Javakheti region.

According to Goga Khachidze, the second large-scale fire has been kindled in the said region for the recent period. The first fire is almost put out, in Borjomi region only small works are going on. At present the condition is critical at the top of the village Atskuri. Now the fire has actively expanded over about 25 hectares. As of the present data no open seats of fire are active. About 200 soldiers are in the natural disaster zone. Local population, rescuers and firemen are mobilized.

We managed to stop the fire through the domestic resources; works are permanently carried out within the territory.

Due to strong wind and high temperature new seats of fire have been built, though the population is not in any danger.

We're trying to bring a fire under control; intensive fire extinguishing works are still going on.

As Goga Khachidze declares an investigation has been launched to establish the causes of the fire. According to the specialists it may have been caused by negligence, and the high temperature supports stirring thereof.

The Prime Minister noted that negligence is a criminal crime.

"Population shall remember that such acts and negligence is punishable under the Criminal Code.

I ask everybody to be as attentive as possible. I'd like to remind everybody that such negligence is a criminal crime.
According to Goga (Khachidze) there are no grounds for aggravation of situation and the population is not in peril yet.

All the resources we are having now are mobilized as much as possible. Accordingly, in the nearest days we're waiting for full extinguishment of the fire." - said Nika Gilauri.
