Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2011 Year

Meeting of the Government as of June 1, 2011

Meeting of the Government as of Jun 1, 2011 On June 1, 2011 was held the meeting of the Georgian Government. The agenda included 60 items.

Before the meeting started, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri talked about several projects of the 10-point strategic plan of the government.

We present the Prime Minister's speech:

"Good day. A few months ago we introduced to the public a 10-point strategic plan for employment and modernization of the country. We are implementing several projects which are a part of this plan.

In the health care sector over 60 new hospitals and clinics will open in a few months. By the end of the next year we shall have up to 150 new clinics and hospitals overall. These will be small and medium-sized clinics and hospitals in the regions and in towns there will be 70-100 bed hospitals.

We have reforms in the education sector as well. Take as an instance the school examinations conducted these days, which were quite a success. This was also a part of that plan.

I would like to talk about another point of the plan first. This is improvement of macroeconomic parameters, which is a part of the 10-point strategic plan. This refers to increase of Gross Domestic Product and improvement in export-import balance, improvement in the current account balance. Today at the government meeting we will discuss one of such issues. This is the issue of establishment of partnership fund, the main function of which will be promotion of export, stimulation of the private sector activity in such fields, such spheres and implementation of such projects, which are too large for the private sector to implement them independently.

Today we will discusss this issue. Several weeks ago the Parliament passed a law on partnership fund. According to this law we shall create a council containing economic profile ministers. The main function of this fund will be implementation of large energy and non-energy projects that the private sector fails to implement independently, which will be most significant for the country stability, economic advancement and increase of exports. In this case I am referring to construction of extra large hydropower stations, construction of refineries and other similar projects.

We would like this fund to start working in the months ahead and see important results, that is involvement of the private sector in economy, in the nearest future.

Our aim will be - by means of this fund to increase substantially the economic activity of the country in the coming years. One of the key factors will be the fund. We shall increase export to a considerable degree, further growth in national export".
