Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2011 Year

Meeting of the Government as of June 7, 2011

Meeting of the Government as of June 7, 2011 On June 7, 2011 was held the meeting of the Georgian Government. The agenda included 48 items.

Before the meeting started, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri, talked about natural disasters. We present the Prime Minister's speech:

"Good day. One of the main issues of today's government meeting is natural disaster. Persistent rains have inflicted significant loss on the regions of East Georgia, especially, on Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Kakheti Regions. Bridges and roads are damaged.

Special groups have been sent at the sites of disaster. Losses are being studied and calculated; GEL 600 has already been allocated. If it is necessary, we will allocate more sums. Project works and, at some places, reconstruction works have already been started.

Jambul, tell us a few words about the ongoing works. Which regions are especially damaged and what else do we have to do?

Jambul Bakuradze: "Mr. Prime Minister, as you have mentioned, Kakheti Region is damaged, especially Sagarejo, Gurjaani, Telavi and Akhmeta regions; In Mtskheta-Mtianeti, virtually all regions have suffered losses, except for Kazbegi. Dusheti Region, Mtianeti, as well as mountainous villages in Dmanisi region, Kvemo Kartli, have suffered significant damage.

All damages are of the same nature. Avalanches and landslides are not observed. Bridges are taken away, driveways are blocked, and agricultural lands, as well as vineyards are damaged. For the first stage, we cave calculated losses caused by the natural disaster.

GEL 600 has been allocated. As we have calculated, this sum is enough to clean main highways. We will have restored all bridges and cleaned roads by the end of this week. What is more important, head constructions are taken away, and water supply will have been restored to everyone by the end of the week.

Gudamakari is closed and Roads Department of Georgia is mobilized. It should be mentioned that but for the heavy equipment we have given to the parties, the losses inflicted would be much greater.

Roads Department, as well as Search and Rescue Service are mobilized. There is no casualty. A large amount of water flooded at night. Size of water flowing on the central highway of Aananuri village, Dusheti Region, equaled to that of the Aragvi River."

Nika Gilauri: „Jambul, when will the amount of losses of the last night be available to us?"

Jambul Bakuradze: „at the end of the day, we will inform you about the approximate sum, which will be enough to have the losses eliminated by the end of the week."

Nika Gilauri: „The Ministry of Finance has already been instructed to allocate respective sums in order that the problems arisen in the regions with respect to bridges and roads are completely eradicated in the nearest days."
