Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2011 Year

Meeting of the Government as of June 21, 2011

Meeting of the Government as of June 21, 2011 On June 21, 2011 was held the meeting of the Georgian Government. The agenda included 81 items.

Before the meeting started, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri, talked about natural disasters. We present the Prime Minister's speech:

"First of all, I would like to welcome a new member of the Cabinet, Dima Gvindadze. During the last six years, he did quite successful job as the Deputy Minister of Finance. Dima was engaged in foreign loan portfolio which he coped with quite successfully. I would like to remind you about Eurobond transaction, which was successful at world financial markets during this year. I would like to wish Dima success in this difficult position he has taken. Being the Minister of Finance is quite difficult in Georgia; I would like Dima to be as successful in the position of the Minister of Finance as he was in that of the Deputy Minister of Finance.

As for the natural disaster, I would like to draw attention of the public and members of the government to the natural disaster, which is the main issue and concern for the present days.
Ramaz, what is the condition like for now? We have mobilized technique, mobilized people and given respective orders. 25 points are damages on the road. Works are under way at several sites simultaneously. Ramaz, tell us a few words about the condition for the time being.

Ramaz Nikolaishvili: Mister Premier, according to your assignment, we have thrown the whole forces over at Rikoti Pass. This is quite important site, as we would not like transportation of gods to be delayed. The main loading has been carried out on these 25 points so far. People are working in three shifts for 24 hours. We have added 362 more pieces of technique; up to 1,400 people are working on site.

I would like to thank everyone; it is heroism what they are doing. They have to work in very hard conditions. We have already started explosion works; half of the 25 points are liquidated. Widening of roars is carried out according to explosion works. We suppose that is several days, intensity of transport will be increased; although, limitations will continue for 10-14 days.

The road will be in the same condition as it was before the natural disaster. According to your assignment, Mr. Khetaguri and I were visited Surami and Khashuri. 500 and up to 1,000 houses were damaged in Surami and Khashuri respectively. There were our working groups in almost every house in Surami. Water and inert material brought in by the river has already been pumped from most of the houses.

Water Company if fully mobilized. We assume that we will completely finish the issue of Surami water supply. We know that we have the similar problem in several regions - Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Kakheti."

NIka Gilauri: "Let us convene Governors and go through the problems tomorrow morning. What problems have arisen in Kakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti regions, and which ones we can settle in the nearest future. Dima, if you come, we will go through terms of funding.

It is very important that living conditions are restored for the population of Surami and Chumateleti, It is impossible to stay there. I would like every person and companion working there to be maximally mobilized so that this problem is solved in the nearest days."

NIka Gilauri:
"What sum will it cost us in total? The initial sum was 10 million. Do we have more precise calculations?"

Ramaz Nikolaishvili: "We have already talked to the Ministry of Finance as well. Presumably, the sum will increase by four more million. This will cost more than this in no case. These explosions have enabled us to reduce the distance of carriage which, in itself, has significantly decreased the sum. I have talked with Dima about the sums and we have presented the calculations."

NIka Gilauri: "Aleko, what about electricity and gas supply?"

Alexander Khetaguri: "Supply of electricity is fully restored in Khashuri and Surami. 64 subscribers were left without electricity in Surami and the supply has been restored to all of them by now. Gas supply is practically suspended in Surami due to the multiple damages. Central pipelines have been impacted and restoration works are under way. In approximately four days, the part of Surami which was supplied with gas will be completely restored and gasification will continue at usual rate."
