On July 5, 2011, the government of Georgia held a meeting. There were 62 issues on the agenda. Before the meeting started, the Prime Minister of Georgia talked about reforms carried out in the field of public health.

We present Nika Gilauri's speech:

"Reforms of public health are most important among the reforms carried out this year. With reforms of public health I mean construction of new clinics and hospitals, which we have started this year. One part of the reforms will have been finished by the end of this year, while the other part - by the next year. In total, construction of more than 50 hospitals and clinics is carried out in Tbilisi and in the Regions.

I would like to ask to the Minister of Health to give us a piece of information. It would be good, if we make a presentation for the public on course of these programs, according to results of six months."

Andria Urushadze: "Mister Premier, constructions of private clinics are under way. Rehabilitation of budget resources has been finished on the base of Zhvania Clinic and a new Railway Hospital. Practically all clinics are ready to start operating.

Construction and rehabilitation of National Center for Lung Disease have already been finished. First stage of rehabilitation of psychiatric institutions is completely finished. Private clinics are ready to be opened. University clinic on the basis of Tbilisi Clinic No 1 has already started operating. New Hospital on the basis of Neurology and Eye Clinic is ready to be opened and will start operating in two months. All constructions are under way in the regions according to the planned rate. From December 1, we expect that there will be from 15- to 25-bed clinics in 50 regions of Georgia, as it was determined by the plan of the government."

Nika Gilauri: "This is a very important reform and we will have first results at the end of this year.

By the end of the current year, we will have more than 50-60 new clinics and hospitals in Georgia. These novelties will continue and we will open dozens of new clinics and hospitals in the nearest future. Investments are mainly made by private sector, although, the State takes part in these investments to some extent.

I would like to ask all Ministers to present results of six months to the public; what plans we have until the end of this year and to make presentation according to the results of the first half of the year, within the nearest two-three months."
