Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2011 Year

Meeting of the Government as of September 23, 2011

Meeting of the Government as of September 23, 2011 On September 23, 2011 was held the meeting of the Georgian Government. The agenda included 56 items.

Before the meeting started, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri, talked about macroeconomic figures.

We present the Prime Minister's speech:

"Good day. Before we start our meeting, I would like to give piece of information to the public and members of the government on macroeconomic issues which will be of particular interest to representatives of private sector. Figures for the first eight months are quite good. According to the first eight months, export has been grown by 40%. This is a good growth; we have not had such growth in export neither of the year.

Import has been grown by 38%. Figures of banking sector are very hopeful: deposits have been grown by 11%, sums of loans have been grown by 14% in total. Growth is quite large in real sector. Selling of cars has been grown by 14%, while real estate transactions have been grown by 30%. There is a very big growth in transit volume, turnover of containers has been grown by 25%. All these reflect on decreasing of unemployment.

Why are economic figures and economic growth very important?

This causes creation of jobs and decreases unemployment. According to the preliminary data of six months, unemployment has decreased from 16,5% to 15,5% in Georgia, which is quite a good figure. It is to be mentioned that the great part of decrease of unemployment took place in the second quarter.

This is a very good, positive trend. Since the last year, unemployment is decreasing gradually, little by little in Georgia. This is on the background of unenviable international economic situation and increasing unemployment almost everywere. Today, this is on the contrary in our country. Macroeconomic figures are most hopeful and most stable in Georgia. In comparison with other countries of our region and European countries, the stable economic condition of Georgia is obvious.

I hope that this trend will last. We have all qualities to last this trend and decrease unemployment even more during the years."
