Government of Georgia – Government Meetings 2011 Year

Meeting of the Government as of October 8, 2011

Meeting of the Government as of October 8, 2011 On October 8, 2011 was held the meeting of the Georgian Government. The agenda included 150 items.

Before the meeting started, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri, talked about the importance of visit of the President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, in Georgia. We present the Prime Minister's speech:

"Good day. I would like to emphasize the importance of the yesterday once more. Visit of the president of France is very important, but of more importance are the messages made by President Sarkozy during his yesterday's speech.

I would like to emphasize two of these messages. One of them is relation between Georgia and Russia. Nikolas Sarkozy pointed out that Russia had not fulfilled the obligations undertaken in August of 2008. Particularly important is the factor that the signer of this agreement is President Sarkozy himself and he called on Russia to fulfill this obligation.

It was also very important that the President pointed out that Russia's attempts to restore the former Soviet Union had been consigned to history and it was already impossible to do that. This is a very important message to Russia, to our society and to the countries all over the world.

The second thing I would like to emphasize is the message of President Sarkozy with respect to relations between Georgia and the NATO and Georgia and the UN. France has not expressed such a direct support to this issue so far. This is the first explicit support to Georgia's becoming member of the NATO and the EU from the President of France. This is very important.

There are many friends of ours in the NATO and the UN. It is very important that one of the most powerful countries, France has joined them.

This is very important to us not only political or geopolitical, but also economical point of view. Stable environment is very important to investors. It is significant that Georgia has such support with respect to its becoming a member of the NATO. This will bring more economic activity, more jobs and even more investments to the country. Today, in particular, when world economy is quite unstable, there are very many problems facing European as well as Asian countries. Against this background, our economy is developing well; economic activity has grown in the third quarter, as compared with the first and the second quarters. It can be said that we are the only country in the region or in the world, the economic growth of which is higher in the third quarter than in the first half of the year."
