Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili is visiting Svaneti. He visited a hotel under construction in Mestia. The owner of the hotel personally informed Prime Minister about future plans aimed to attract tourists. The hotel will come into operation in the spring of 2014, while being able to host one hundred guests in the summer of 2014. After the hotel launches it activities, up to fifty locals will be employed."Svaneti has a tremendous tourism potential, and this can benefit the local population greatly. I promise you that Svaneti will develop in accordance with a well-calculated and prudent plan," Irakli Garibashvili stated.
Prime Minister also visited the Mestia Ethnography Museum and exhibit depositories. According to him, Svaneti always served a special purpose in Georgia, being the protector of the country's treasuries. "A significant portion of Georgia's treasuries is preserved here. More than six hundred icons and crosses and unique frescoes are preserved here and protected by the Svans with special reverence," Prime Minister said.
