Government Decree Sets to Improve Access of Rural Population to COVID-19 Vaccines Throughout Georgia Print Version

A Government Decree has been issued to improve access of rural population to COVID-19 vaccines throughout Georgia. The Government Decree was signed by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia.

In line with the referred Government Decree, vaccination will be administered at healthcare facilities or institutions of non-medical profile, places of public gathering or at places of actual residence for persons with limited capacity of mobility.

Healthcare facilities that are mandated to administer the program within municipalities have been instructed to ensure staffing of vaccinating brigades with medical personnel of the applicable profile and all the essential equipment.

Outpatient care facilities administering scheduled check-ups have been mandated to ensure the vaccination of registered rural population with an engagement of village doctors and nurses.

Municipal public healthcare centres have been mandated to supply respective locations with vaccines and to monitor the cold chain, as well as to coordinate the interaction of local authorities, vaccinating brigades and population to be immunised against COVID-19.

Local authorities have been instructed to select the respective infrastructure for the vaccination of local residents and to seek agreement from the centre and agency regulating the pharmaceutical sector. Also, they are mandated to mobilise the population for vaccination and to invite them to the vaccination units, while providing transportation if need be. In addition, local authorities should ensure the establishment of task forces for vaccination to facilitate the process of immunization.

Centre for Emergency Coordination and Response has been instructed to facilitate the engagement of village doctors and nurses in the vaccination process. Also, they are required to support the process of selection in view of relevant village out-patient care units within municipalities to be carried out by the local healthcare facilities.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia has been instructed to designate buildings of education profile if need be prior to the resumption of the academic process.

The Ministry of Defence of Georgia has been instructed to designate additional medical personnel for administering vaccination if need be and to arrange waiting spaces.

In line with the Government Decree, the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons, Labour, Health and Social Security of Georgia will be coordinating the measures laid out in the referred Government Decree.
