2023-11-25

The Government of Georgia joins the 16 Days Campaign for the Elimination of Violence against Women, an annual activity running from November 25 through December 10.

Combatting gender-based violence against women and domestic violence, violence prevention, and protection of victims make up one of the key priorities of the Georgian Government.

In recent years, Georgia has achieved considerable success in this direction, which has been underpinned by the implementation of a coordinated multi-sectoral approach and purposeful policy.

The November 8, 2023 Final Report of the European Commission commends the response of institutions to gender-based violence and underlines that the state's response to violence is effective and clearly defined.
The report above also reflects the strategic documents and legislation approved by Georgia's authorities regarding matters pertaining to gender equality, gender-based violence, and domestic violence, including the 2022-2024 National Action Plans for the Implementation of the UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security, and Measures to Be Taken for Combatting Violence against Women and Domestic Violence and Protecting Survivors, along with the Gender Equality Concept.

The Government of Georgia, together with its partners, will continue effective measures to fight against gender-based violence.

The 16 Days Campaign for the Elimination of Violence against Women has been held annually since 1991, from November 25 through December 10. The campaign is carried out by over 5,000 organizations in 187 countries around the world. The campaign seeks to bolster violence prevention through raising awareness of violence against women.
