As Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze stated in his speech at today's event celebrating the establishment of the Akhali (New) Shuamta Monastery Restoration Foundation, Georgian churches and monasteries have always been educational centers and most of our cherished literary works that make up our tremendous contribution to world civilization originated in Georgian churches.

The Head of Government praised the establishment of the foundation as a patriotic cause seeking to restore the original appearance of this unique monastery and to establish there an educational center for generations to me.

"Historically, educational centers were always associated with the Georgia Church. Every Georgian church or monastery was an educational center, and most of our cherished literary works that make up our tremendous contribution to world civilization were written in Georgian churches. It is noteworthy and rewarding that this tradition carries on in the 21st century to enable our future generations to study in an educational center of this kind. Our Government gives special priority to caring for our historical and cultural heritage, and Georgian churches and monasteries are of ultimate value and require special care, so that we may rest assured that we can hand them down, in their original form, to generations to come," the Prime Minister emphasized.

Held at the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, the presentation of the Akhali (New) Shuamta Restoration Foundation was attended by the Minister of Education, Culture and Sport, the State Governor of the Kakheti Region, representatives of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation, clerics, and the founders of the foundation.
