Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia Meets US Senators and Congressmen to Discuss Deepening US-Georgia Strategic Partnership and Security Challenges in the Region Print Version

Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia met a visiting delegation of US Senators and Congressmen led by Chris Coons (D-DE) of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations today.

Focus was made at the meeting on the steadfast strategic partnership between Georgia and USA, which is based on common values and interests. It was noted that the current visit of the delegation is yet another evidence of strong support of the USA being the main strategic partner of Georgia. Role and engagement of the USA in developing the democratic institutions and defense capabilities of Georgia, along with the economic development and facilitated advancement.

The Head of Government of Georgia reiterated the readiness for close cooperation to the delegation members, to make sure that current partnership is further intensified in the field of defense, commerce and investments inter alia. Irakli Garibashvili noted that Georgia was and remains to be a solid and reliable partner of the USA in the region and beyond.

Meeting held at the Government Administration was also focused on the military activities witnessed in Ukraine and impact of the war on the regional security environment. Role and maximum efforts of the international community was noted as vital in ending the war at the earliest possible time. Attention was paid to the steps made by the Georgian authorities in support of Ukraine and Ukrainian people both in political as well as humanitarian dimensions, inter alia including support and co-sponsorship of resolutions relating to Ukraine within international formats. The Prime Minister of Georgia noted that over 500 tons of humanitarian cargo was sent from Georgia to Ukraine and this process continues.

Attention was also paid at the meeting on the bipartisan support of the US Congress towards Georgia and the Prime Minister of Georgia expressed his gratitude to the delegation members for this.

Visiting US officials reaffirmed Irakli Garibashvili in the unwavering support of the US Congress towards sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

Kelly C. Degnan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Georgia; Aaron Ruppert, Political Officer of the US Embassy in Georgia. Attendees from the Georgian side included: Ilia Darchiashvili, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia; H.E. David Zalkaliani, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the United States of America; Revaz Javelidze, Acting Head of Government Administration.
