Irakli Garibashvili on Wheat and Flour Stock: We have more than sufficient stock in the country. A certain small group politicized this issue and artificially created the fuss Print Version

2022-05-16

We have more than sufficient stock of flour in the country. Wheat stock is also available and we expect to harvest our wheat in a month or so. Thus, there was no reason for fuss. It was announced by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia at the Executive Government Meeting today, when received a detailed briefing on the current position in the country from Ministers of Environmental Protection and Agriculture (MEPA) on the topic of high public interest - wheat and flour stock.

As the Head of Government of Georgia noted, fuss was artificially created and no problem exists towards this end whatsoever in the country.

"Industry representatives are requesting import duties to be introduced on flour, right? It will of course lead to a price increase on bread. It is neither in our interest, nor in the interest of our people - our population. Thus, I believe that this fuss was absolutely artificially caused and no problem exists towards this end whatsoever. We have more than sufficient stock of flour and wheat in the country. Besides, in a matter of a month or so, we will harvest our own wheat. Thus, no grounds exist for a fuss, which was caused by a certain small group. It was a politicized issue, while the fuss was merely artificial" stated the Prime Minister of Georgia.
