Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia attended a public funeral service of eleven individuals postmortem expatriated from the occupied Abkhazia at Trinity Cathedral. The Head of Government of Georgia paid tribute to their memory and expressed condolences to their families.

"First of all, I wish to say that together with the Red Cross we have been expatriating bodies of our heroes for years to territories controlled by us in Georgia. You may well be aware that until we regain control in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali, we will need the engagement of our partners. The Red Cross has - I would say - a priceless role in this and I want to thank everyone who was engaged in this process. We returned bodies of our 11 heroes to their families and I wish to once again express my condolences to them" noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.

With joint efforts of the Office of State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), bodies of three civilians - Giorgi Jokhadze, Otar Tutisani and Iuri Macharashvili - fallen during the hostilities in Abkhazia in 1990's as well as eight servicemen - Otar Gagua, Revaz Kvaratskhelia, Vakhtang Khojanashvili, Bidzina Ushkhvani, Zviad Uskhvani, Boris Berulava, Spiridon (Pridon) Tirkia and Khvicha Dekanosidze - have now been expatriated from the occupied territories of Abkhazia.
