"Last week was very painful for us. Natural disaster and a tragedy has resulted in the loss of 14 lives. Once again, I wish to express condolences to the families of the victims. I observed the liquidation works at the actual site and wish to note that public institutions as well as officials of local authorities did a lot, operated in the most efficient manner. Power and natural gas supply recovered very quickly to hundreds of villages affected by the problem, which was originally caused by the natural disaster. Also, roads were cleaned up very quickly, traffic has resumed at affected locations. About 400 residential houses were flooded as a result of the natural disaster, out of which pumping has been completed in over 300 cases, but 296 families have been relocated to safe locations until the final conclusion is drawn. Losses have been evaluated as well and applicable documents are being drawn to allocate compensations, allowances to the affected families. If need be, resources will be allocated towards this end from the central budget as well. I wish to thank the relevant line ministries that were most actively engaged in the liquidation of the natural disaster. These are: Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Ministry of Environmental Protection and I also wish to thank the Department of Regional Coverage within the Government Administration, officials of local authorities, emergency rescue crews and everyone else engaged in these works" noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.

The Head of Government focused on the future work of the cabinet and stated that the Government of Georgia should set a tone for transparency and accountability to serve as a role model for others.

"Overall, our country is facing a set of serious challenges. We need to develop our economy at a greater pace, complete the already launched infrastructure projects; further solidify the defense and security capabilities of the country; further advance the education, healthcare and social security systems; also, take a good care of arts and culture, sports and youth. There is a need to further strengthen the foreign policy positions of our country as well.

With an aim of achieving maximum results, our performance - government performance - should be based on very strong principles. First and foremost, I believe that the Government of Georgia should set a tone to others in transparency and accountability. Each decision we take should be most accessible to citizens and we should require the same from other public institutions.

Also, we should constantly care for the quality improvement of our work; we should upgrade all the relevant mechanisms of quality control and supervision to minimize the faults. Same applies to the quality of public services. There as well, grievances of our citizens should be drawn to minimum towards the service quality.

In general, decisions related to every topic should be taken on the grounds of rather comprehensive consultations with the society, subject-matter specialists and industry representatives. Always, when taking decisions, society should be given a clarification on the essence and reasoning of such decisions. It should be one of the guiding principles of our performance.

One of the crucial topics is the Clinical Hospital and here again, we need to hold active consultations with the subject-matter specialists, medical doctors, hospital staff to make sure that relevant decisions get taken at the end of the day" noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.

According to the Prime Minister of Georgia, the country has commendable results in terms of its fight against corruption.

"We have very good results in the fight against corruption, with a small scale of corruption, which is evidenced by plenty of international studies. Nevertheless, I believe that here again we should have greater ambitions and strive to be among the leading countries of the world towards this end, which is an absolutely realistic goal. Main aim is to actively work on all these topics. Overall, we have a very strong government team and I am confident that we will reach very substantial results together. It all depends on our ability to aim, stay focused and consistent, and work hard. None of these qualities are strange to any of you. Once again, let me wish you success and thank you all. We can now proceed with the agenda of the meeting" concluded the Prime Minister of Georgia.
