Working Visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to Republic of Azerbaijan

On 5 July 2006, Prime Minister of Georgia Mr. Zurab Noghaideli was on a one-day working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan. The government delegation also included Minister of Economic Development Irakli Chogovadze and Minister of Energy Nika Gilauri.

Zurab Noghaideli held meetings with Prime Minister of Republic of Azerbaijan Artur Rasizade and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

At the meetings, the parties discussed a number of issues but purchase of natural gas from Azerbaihan was high on the agenda (the parties discussed the volume as well as cost of natural gas).

The parties also touched upon the specific steps towards implementation of Karsi-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku Railway Project. As the Prime Minister said, the competent authorities of both countries received specific assignments to that end and the work on the project will continue.

The parties are also working on the possibilities for private and state-owned companies of Azerbaijan to make sizable investments in Georgia as well as on the additional measures to be made in the trade-economic relations to make sure that the free trade agreement between the two countries is more effective.

During Zurab Noghaideli's working visit, it became known that the Meeting of Georgia-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Economic Commission will be held in Georgia in the second half of August instead of June and very important decisions on all the aforementioned questions will be made thereat.
